    We have had a successful Women’s Section for many years and offer opportunities for members to get involved, both competitively and socially. Competitions are usually held on Thursdays and weekends, including:

    • Teams – 1st & 2nd Scratch teams and the Pearson team (league interclub matches), plus friendly interclub matches
    • Competitions – Medals, Stablefords, Spring and Autumn Meetings, Lady Captain’s and Lady President’s Days
    • Women’s Academy – more below.

    Over the years several of our female members have represented their county both at senior and at junior level. On several occasions we have won the accolade of Best County Scratch team and been finalists in the Pearson Trophy.

    Harpenden Golf Club were delighted to be the first Golf Club in Hertfordshire to sign up to the R&A’s Women in Golf Charter, in April 2020. By committing to the Charter, the Club hopes to grow the already strong section and to signify a welcoming facility to all. A full copy of the Club’s charter is available to view here.

    The Womens’ Academy

    We have recently launched our Womens’ Academy offering golf lessons for beginners, or near beginners, in a group environment.

    The Academy offers introductory lessons from our Professional with all equipment provided, and a pathway into the Full Club Members via individual lessons and on-course coaching.

    All Academy Members are welcomed into the Club and are encouraged to participate in social activities and find they quickly bond with the more established Members of the club. The Academy is a constant feeder of new members, who by the time they join already feel very much part of the overall club.

    For further information please contact the club’s office.

  • Juniors

    At Harpenden Golf Club we have an active Junior Section with over 40 members ranging in age from 10 to 18 years (boys and girls). We run an exciting program of golf for all ages and abilities that gives our junior members an opportunity to develop and improve their skills in an enjoyable environment.

    We have a qualified Assistant Professional, Finlay Mitchell, who came through the junior ranks himself at Harpenden Golf Club and who is also a past Junior Captain. All juniors are encouraged to take lessons in order to help them maximise their golfing potential and as an incentive, the Club runs promotional offers to subsidise these lessons. Finlay also runs regular ‘Introduction to Golf’ courses for children wishing to take up the sport.

    Our Juniors get involved throughout the year in the following:

    • Weekly group coaching sessions (March – October)
    • Harpenden Golf Club adult competitions and Junior events
    • Club Matches and Leagues
    • Knockout competitions
    • County League and Events
    • The Hertfordshire Junior Champion Club.

    Juniors are encouraged to participate in other County events such as the Futures Tour for 6 to 11 year olds and the iTour for 10 to 14 year olds and to play in some of the Junior Open competitions. Results from these events are fed into the County Order of Merit which then allows the County to offer Academy coaching places to any rising stars.

    Since the summer of 2023, we also offer a Junior Academy Membership (view here) for boys and girls looking to take up the game and have been a host venue for the Girls Golf Rocks scheme.

    For further information please contact the club’s office.

    SafeGolf

    Harpenden Golf Club are proud to be recognised as a SafeGolf Venue.

    What is SafeGolf?

    SafeGolf is a partnership of UK golf bodies committed to promoting a safe and positive environment for all those participating, working and volunteering in the sport of golf.

    The SafeGolf partnership consists of members from the golfing bodies across Great Britain & Ireland and has been established to help golf respond to the issue of child protection in sport. Its mission is to safeguard the welfare of children and young people, as well as adults at risk, in the sport of golf.

    SafeGolf is firstly, a website – www.safegolf.org – through which anyone with a concern about the welfare of a player, or the behaviour or practice of a coach, volunteer, organiser, parent or a player, can contact the lead safeguarding officer at their national governing body.

    Secondly, it is the safeguarding standard England Golf will promote to all their affiliated clubs to ensure all clubs provide a safe and positive experience to children and young people whilst playing golf. The PGA are also using the standards to apply to all their PGA professional Coaches.

  • Seniors

    The Seniors’ section very warmly welcomes all male full members of Harpenden Golf Club aged 55 years or over.

    The Seniors’ section has a full annual calendar and fixtures list, which comprises of:

    • monthly stableford competitions;
    • summer and winter knockout competitions;
    • other competitions, which are followed by a lunch and prizegiving; and
    • inter-club friendly matches.

    The Seniors’ Scratch team competes in the Hertfordshire Golf Seniors’ Scratch League.

    The Seniors embrace the central principle of the game of golf that players play by the Rules and in the spirit of the game, by acting with integrity, showing consideration to others, and taking good care of the course. Members of the section make every effort to make it as easy as possible for new members to feel welcome and become fully integrated within the Club.
