We are pleased to report that England Golf have awarded Harpenden Golf Club the Women in Golf Charter status. In a congratulatory letter Jeremy Tomlinson, CEO of England Golf, commented:
“As the first club in Hertfordshire to achieve the Women in Golf Charter status, it is a pleasure to send this to you in recognition of your commitment to golf at every level of our sport. Your hard work in widening the general appeal of golf is to be applauded, especially when it comes to developing opportunities for women and girls within your club and local community.”
The Club has highlighted room for growth in our Ladies section to boost our membership income and it is pleasing to note that the reviews have documented that our Club is already pro-active in its approach to welcoming all as part of the Club. This is part of our ongoing commitment to ensure the Club operates in an equal manner across all sections, a statement that was also set out by this year’s Captain, Peter Hart.
The Club has celebrated our Ladies Scratch Team being the County Team Champions for the past two years, but we must also focus on providing a welcoming environment to make the Club appeal to all golfers regardless of their sex, age or ability. The use of the Club’s Academy scheme will be critical for this pathway.
Looking ahead, our Charter signifies the Club’s intent to include an opportunity for Women to feel comfortable enough to sit for decision making roles within the Club’s governance structure. This will obviously take careful planning and the publication of detailed job roles for the positions available and will not deviate from the Club’s current appointment composition.
